Former & Current Dutch Move On to CWSBy: Camdyn Ames ALBANY, N.Y. - Former and current Albany Dutchmen from Louisville and Vanderbilt have moved on to Omaha for the College World Series.
Louisville
J.D. Mundt (’16-’17 Dutch), Adam Elliot (’17 Dutch), Lucas Dunn (’18 Dutch), Cameron Mastern (’18 Dutch), Ben Metzinger (’19 Dutch), Chris Seng (’19 Dutch)
Louisville swept East Carolina in their Super Regional Series. In game one they put away the Pirates 14-1. Lucas Dunn (2018) went 2 for 5 and scored on a single in the fifth inning to give the Cards a 5-0 lead. In game two Louisville shutout the Pirates 12-0. Dunn went 1 for 5 driving in two runs, one on a fielder’s choice in the fifth to give Louisville an 8-0 lead. He also drove in a run with a double in the ninth to cap the scoring for the Cards. Louisville will take on Vanderbilt in their first game of the College World Series.
Vanderbilt
John Malcolm (’18 Dutch) Luke Murphy (’18 Dutch)
Vanderbilt defeated Duke 2 games to 1 in their Super Regional Series, which included the first no-hitter in Super Regional history from Freshman Kumar Rocker. The commodores will face Louisville in their first game of the College World Series.
Ole Miss
Michael Fitzsimmons (’15 Dutch), Max Cioffi (’18 Dutch), Justin Bench (’19 Dutch), Josh Hall (’19 Dutch), Logan Savell (’19 Dutch), Jacob Steinberg (’19 Dutch)
Ole miss fell at the hands of Arkansas in the final game of the three-game Super Regional series. Former Dutchmen Max Cioffi (2018) saw action on the bump in game one, throwing two and one-third scoreless innings in relief, allowing no hits while striking out four.
Tampa
Deavan Phillips ('18 Dutch), Colton Widdows ('19 Dutch)
Two Dutchmen, Deavan Phillips (2018) and incoming Dutchmen Colton Widdows helped the University of Tampa to their eighth Division 2 National Championship in school history. Louisville and Vanderbilt play each other in their first games in the CWS on Sunday, June 16th, at 2:00 p.m. EST. The game can be viewed on ESPN |
