The Albany Dutchmen and Glens Falls Golden Eagles traded victories in their final at-bats, splitting a doubleheader Friday at Bellizzi Field. The Dutchmen won the first game, 3-2, and dropped the nightcap by a 4-3 score.

The opening run of the first game was plated by the Dutchmen in the third inning. James Locklear (Rider) singled with one out in the inning, and proceeded to steal second base. He then was able to steal third base, and when the throw to third trickled away, scored the first Albany run of the night.

Glens Falls answered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, taking a 2-1 lead. Mark Powell (Bucknell) and JQ Folena (Cabrillo) began the inning with back-to-back singles. Powell scored his run on a delayed steal of home, while Folena was caught between first and second. Folena, who advanced to second on the play, scored on a two-out error.

Down to their final six outs of the game, Albany struck in the bottom of the sixth inning. Cameron Miller (Baylor) began the inning with a double, and Jake Hanson (Valpariaso) moved him over with a bunt. Nick Jewett (Trinity University) clubbed a single up the middle to tie the game. The Dutchmen took the lead with two outs in the inning, when Ernie Clement (Virginia) singled home Jewett.

Kyle Zurak (Radford) earned the save for working a scoreless seventh inning. Justin Curry (Heartland CC) moved his record to 2-0, while Tyler Ehlers (Colorado Mesa) took the loss.

In the second game, Albany struck first with a run in the first inning. Adam Lee (Lipscomb) began the frame with a double, and scored on a Jewett grounder with one out in the inning.

The Golden Eagles tied the game in the third inning after a Kaleb Holbrook (South Georgia) double was turned into a run on a single from Danny Oliveri (Triton).

The Golden Eagles then took another 2-1 lead on the night with a run scored in the fourth inning. Ryan Hooper (UC-Davis) walked with one out in the inning, and scored on a wild pitch.

Trailing 2-1, the Dutchmen scored two runs in the fifth inning to retake the lead. Danny Hrbek (Radford) started the effort with a single, and was moved to second base on a Nick Morton (Washington and Jefferson). Clement then belted a double to tie the game, and scored on a Lee single to take the lead.

The 3-2 lead lasted into the seventh inning, when Glens Falls scored two runs to claim victory. The runs were scored on an RBI double from Oliveri and a sacrifice fly from Powell.

The winning pitcher for the Golden Eagles was Nick McNeil (Nova Southeastern), and the losing pitcher was Zurak.

The Dutchmen will play the second half of the four-game series with the Golden Eagles tomorrow at East Field, and return to Albany on Monday for a game with the Utica Brewers. It is the rescheduled SEFCU Hometown Heroes Night, where police, military, fire and EMT will be honored and receive free admission. Kids also eat free with paid admission, and the Dutchmen will pay tribute to America’s Pastime in Hollywood with Baseball Movie Night.
