Three Dutchmen Selected to PGCBL All-Star GameBy: Ryan Murphy The Albany Dutchmen will send three players to the 2015 PGCBL All-Star Game, including the league’s first ever three-time All-Star. The teams were announced by the league Monday evening, and were selected by the head coaches of the ten teams. Zach Remillard (Coastal Carolina), Nick Cioffi (Towson), and Mike Reitcheck (Pennsylvania) were selected to the East Division squad, which will be coached by Amsterdam head coach Keith Griffin. In seasons where the East Division and West Division face off, the East has gone undefeated. Remillard is the first three-time All-Star in PGCBL history after being selected in the 2012 and 2013 seasons. The designated hitter is hitting .333 with 13 runs batted in and 14 runs scored. He has also stolen a team-high four bases and drilled one of the team’s seven home runs. He has been named the team’s Spotlight Player of the Week twice this season, the only player to receive such an honor. Joining Remillard on the All-Star team are two starting pitchers that have buoyed the staff throughout the season thus far. Cioffi, who started on Opening Day for the Dutchmen, has tossed 36 solid innings with 33 strikeouts. The Towson righty has a 2-1 record and has recorded a 2.50 ERA. Cioffi has allowed two earned runs or less in five of his appearances, and his most recent start was a six-inning complete game shutout victory over the Saugerties Stallions on July 9. Reitcheck’s All-Star campaign has consisted of five starts and three victories for the Dutchmen, with 33 strikeouts and just 12 walks in 31 innings on the mound. The Penn left-hander has posted a 2.90 ERA, and has yet to allow more than three earned runs in an outing. His best outing of the season came at Cantine Field in Saugerties, working all seven innings and allowing just one run in a 2-1 victory over the Stallions. PGCBL All-Star festivities will take place Monday, July 20 at Veterans Memorial Park in Little Falls, home of the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs. The game will be preceded by the league’s annual Home Run Derby, and scout day activities will take place earlier in the day. |
