Two Coastal Carolina Chanticleers Headed to AlbanyBy: Ryan Murphy Three of the most decorated players in Albany Dutchmen history came to the Capital City from Coastal Carolina University, and the Dutchmen are happy to welcome two more players from Conway, South Carolina to the 2016 roster in catcher Kyle Skeels and righthanded pitcher Jared Gold. Skeels and Gold join former Dutchmen Will Remillard, Anthony Marks, and Zach Remillard as Chanticleers that wore the Dutchmen colors. Coastal Carolina is currently ranked No. 22 in the nation by Perfect Game USA. Kyle Skeels, a freshman catcher from Langhorne, Pennsylvania, signed with Coastal Carolina as one of the top 40 players in Pennsylvania's Class of 2015, and one of the top five catchers. Skeels was a Perfect Game All-Atlantic Region Honorable Mention selection out of Neshaminy High School, and was a first team all-conference selection in the All-Suburban One League National Conference. As a senior at Neshaminy, the catcher hit six home runs with a .368 batting average and 18 runs batted in. In his high school career, Skeels hit .350 with 40 runs batted in. Skeels is expected to provide the Dutchmen with a powerful bat at the catcher position, and his work with Coastal Carolina catcher coach Kevin Schnall should provide a solid presence behind the plate. Jared Gold joins the Dutchmen roster as a redshirting freshman from Moorestown, New Jersey. Gold was a talented two-way player for Moorestown High School, and was considered one of the top ten second basemen in the state of New Jersey in the class of 2015. In his career at Moorestown, Gold went 13-5 with five saves, recording a 1.42 ERA. He struck out 92 hitters in 132 innings, and was named the conference Pitcher of the Year as a senior. He was an all-conference selection as a hitter, and was an All-County selection. Gold's younger brother Ryan, a catcher, is a Coastal Carolina commit that will join the Chanticleers next season. The Gold brothers helped Moorestown to a sectional championship game. Gold has also excelled as a student at Coastal Carolina, earning recognition as a Dean's List scholar during his first semester on campus. Gold will provide the Dutchmen with solid innings on the mound during the 2016 season. The Dutchmen are happy to welcome Skeels and Gold to the 2016 roster, and hope to continue the trend of Chanticleers providing top performances in Albany during the summer. |
