ALBANY, N.Y.- Using stellar pitching and just enough offense, the Albany Dutchmen (22-13) ended the last game before the All-Star break on a high note, defeating the Saugerties Stallions (15-20) by the final score of 6-0.

The two teams traded scoreless baseball for the first four innings of the ballgame before the Dutchmen finally broke through in the fifth inning against starting pitcher Kevin Napoleon (Butler).  With two outs and nobody on base following a double play, Albany began to rally on a walk by Griffen Herrera (Azusa Pacific).  Justin Decker (Dominican) followed with a single, and Peyton Sockwell (North Alabama) brought home Herrera for the first run of the game with a single of his own.  The Dutchmen were not finished, as Decker scored on a passed ball against catcher Justin Tuey (Le Moyne).

Albany put the game out of reach in the sixth inning.  Trace Tyre (Ole Miss), got the inning’s scoring started with an RBI double to bring home Nick Gallo (Oklahoma State) who had reached on a double of his own.  Chase Allen (Limestone) followed with the biggest swing of the game, belting a three run home run to left field, scoring Brandt Holland (North Alabama) and Tyre to give the Dutchmen 6-0 lead.  Allen finished his day with two hits in four at bats, a run scored, and three runs driven in.

For the rest of the game, the Dutchmen’s pitching staff blanked the Stallions.  Jack Grabek (Bucknell) started to ballgame off with 2.1 scoreless innings, retiring the first seven batters of the game before allowing a single to Patrick Lagravinese (UAlbany).  He was followed by Sean Boyle’s (Dallas Baptist) 4.1 scoreless innings, in which he struck out three batters.  Boyle picked up the win, which brought his season record to 2-2.  Roel Garcia (Rice) and JD Mundt (Louisville) combined to finish off the game, retiring all seven batters they faced.

The Stallions thoroughly struggled to find any offense throughout the game, only having five runners reach base.  In addition to that, the Stallions only advanced a runner into scoring position twice.

Saugerties, who has held onto fourth place in the East throughout much of the season, now only leads fifth place Glens Falls by 3.5 games for the final playoff spot.

Up next for many of the Dutchmen players is a trip to the All Star Game, hosted by Amsterdam at Shuttleworth Park on July 18th.  Nick Estrella (Azusa Pacific), Justin Bureau (Ave Maria), Tommy Miller (Siena), and Matt Pierce (Siena) will represent Albany in the All-Star Game.  Trace Norkus (North Florida), Greg Marino (Stony Brook), Justin Childers (Ohio Dominican), Grabek, Tyre, Garcia, and Gallo will all be taking part in the Prospect Game.  Gallo, Childers, and Estrella will represent the Dutchmen in the various skills competitions taking place in between games.  Allen will be partaking in the home run derby.

After the All-Star break, Albany returns home to take on the Amsterdam Mohawks on July 19th at Siena Field with the first pitch at 5:05.  The fans will pick the promotion for the game by voting on the Dutchmen social media accounts.
