Dutchmen Mercy Glens Falls

(GLENS FALLS)-- Albany Dutchmen bounced back from the first loss of the season with a 15-4 mercy rule win against Glens Falls Dragons last night to move to 5-1 on the season.

 

Albany’s been getting it done with walks and extra base hits in the first six games, as the Dutchmen rank top three in the PGCBL for doubles (14), triples (2), home runs (4) and walks (48), while leading the league in On Base Percentage (.452), Slugging Percentage (.462), and OPS (.914). 

 

The theme of walks and extra base hits continued into last night, as the Dutchmen walked 11 times, including three apiece from Cam Jordan (San Jacinto) who made his Dutchmen debut, as well as David Silva Jr. (Ohio Dominican) who picked up two of the team’s eight stolen bases last night. 

 

David Silva Jr. 's 10 stolen bases leads all hitters in the PGCBL, while the team’s 30 swiped bags in six games leads the league.

 

Albany tallied 10 hits on the evening, including doubles from Matt Bergevin (Fairfield) who currently leads the PGCBL with five doubles, and Nick Plue (Manhattan), as well as a Chance Checca (Herkimer) triple who also led the squad with three RBIs.

 

The pitching staff was dominant, combining for 8 innings, 5 hits, 1 earned run and 7 strikeouts. Mike Maratea (Ramapo) got his first start of the season, throwing 3.1 innings, 1 hit, 1 earned run and 3 strikeouts. Ryan McCarroll (Wheaton) and Luke Pusz (Herkimer) dominated out of the bullpen, combining for 4.2 innings, 4 hits, 4 strikeouts and no earned runs.

 

Albany returns to the field tonight for a 5:00 doubleheader against Watertown Rapids at Keenholts Park for Black Out Night, as the Dutchmen will unveil the brand new black uniforms, as well as hosting Guilderland Youth Baseball Night.
