Dutchmen Score Second-Most Runs in Team History

The Albany Dutchmen scored 15 runs, the second-highest total in franchise history, and rolled to a 15-1 victory over the Utica Brewers Tuesday night at Donovan Stadium. The 15 runs were the most since the Dutchmen scored 19 runs on July 17, 2013 against the Adirondack Trail Blazers.

Albany scored three runs in the second inning, all with two outs in the frame. The 15 run outburst began in an unexpected way — on a strikeout. Adam Lee (Lipscomb) struck out, but the ball skipped away from the Utica catcher, allowing Lee to reach safely and Cameron Miller (Baylor) to score. The next hitter, Will Miller (College of the Albemarle) singled and brought Sean Aspinall (Azusa Pacific) and Dave Vaccaro (Radford) to the plate.

The lead was extended to 5-0 in the fourth inning, with Adam Lee again beginning the scoring. With one out, Lee doubled to bring Vaccaro home, and then scored on a passed ball. Lee ended his game 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three runs batted in.

The biggest offensive explosion for the Dutchmen came in the fifth inning. Albany sent ten hitters to the plate, and scored six runs to claim an 11-0 lead. The inning was marked by a two-run single from Adam Lee, a two-run single from Danny Hrbek (Radford), and an RBI single from Will Miller.

The lone run of the game for the Brewers was provided on an RBI fielders choice from John Jennings (Rutgers).

The scoring would continue in the sixth inning, as the Dutchmen re-extended their lead to eleven. Cameron Miller led off the inning with a single, and eventually came around to score on a double play off the bat of Nick Morton (Trinity University).

Another run was plated by the Dutchmen in the seventh inning. Will Miller led off the inning with a hit by pitch. After Hrbek reached on an error, Josh Lee (Lipscomb) drove in the run on a sacrifice fly, making the score 13-1.

The scoring concluded in the top of the ninth inning, as the Dutchmen again put the leadoff runner on. The runs scored on an RBI single from Cameron Miller and an RBI groundout from Aspinall.

Drew Tolson (Baylor) was outstanding in his second start for Albany, earning his first win of the season. Tolson allowed just one hit, and struck out five hitters without a walk. Nick DiLeo (Wagner) and Austin Goeke (Wagner) pitched the final two innings of the game, holding the Brewers scoreless to end the game.

Albany returns home on Wednesday for a doubleheader with the Watertown Rams. The first game is scheduled to begin at 5:05.

Wednesday is High School Scholar Athlete Recognition Night, sponsored by New York State Public High School Athletic Association. High school scholar athletes from across the area will be recognized. The Dutchmen will also run Twitter and Facebook promotions as part of Web Wednesday. Concession specials including Capital Q pulled pork sandwiches (includes coleslaw & corn bread) and Philly cheese steak dinners (includes potato salad & chips) will be available all night.
