Fast Start Propels the Dutchmen Over DragonsBy: Dutchmen Front Office The Albany Dutchmen defeated the Glens Falls Dragons 7-1 Thursday night thanks to five runs scored in the first two innings. In the first inning, the Dutchmen scored three runs after the lineup batted around, with six players reaching base the first time around. Albany came out swinging in the second as Justin Childers (Ohio Dominican University) hit the team’s first homerun of the season over the left field wall. Albany not only clicked at the plate, but while on base. The Dutchmen had five stolen bases on the night. Four of those came from Siena commit, Zach Durfee, who went 1-4 and scored two runs. Dutchmen head coach Nick Davey stressed to Durfee to be aggressive while on base, something Albany didn’t do last season. That came to fruition as the future Saint stole second and third twice each tonight. As a result, he was awarded as Dutchmen “Recognized Player of the Game.” The Dutchmen replicated the same success on the mound as they did on the plate. Kale Morton (Azusa Pacific University) got the start and pitched four innings, striking out two, while only allowing only two hits and no runs. With the win, Albany earns their second win of the season (2-0) and will be back home Friday nigh at 7:05 p.m. against the Oneonta Outlaws at Bellizzi Stadium. |
