Dutchmen sign autographs for the fans after tonight's loss against the Amsterdam Mohawks

Following a tight battle, the Albany Dutchmen (21-13) fell to the Amsterdam Mohawks (27-8) by a final score of 5-4, on a ninth inning RBI double by Dylan Reynolds (Fairfield).  

After rallying back from a 4-2 deficit to tie the game at four, Albany allowed Amsterdam to regain the lead in the top of the ninth inning.  Jeremiah Burke (Georgetown) retired the first two Mohawk batters of the inning.  Eric Rivera (Florida Atlantic) hit a two out single to keep the inning alive.  As Reynolds was batting, Rivera took off to try to steal second and Reynolds hit a long fly ball into the gap in left center.  Rivera scored easily and the run proved to be the deciding run in the ballgame. 

The Dutchmen had rallied back from a 4-2 deficit in the eighth inning off of Morgan McSweeney (Wake Forest).  Two out pinch hitting proved to be the key.  With two men on base and two out, Adam Elliot (Louisville) delivered a first pitch single to bring home a run and cut the deficit to one run.  Trace Tyre (Ole Miss) followed with a pinch hitting appearance of his own, and delivered the game tying single to right field.  Albany had a chance to add another run with baserunners on the corners, but Chase Allen (Limestone) popped out to end the inning.  

With the ballgame tied at one in the fourth inning, Teddy Paisley (Virginia) lost his command.  After a one out double by Anthony Gonnella (South Florida), Paisley hit the next two batters with pitches to load the bases.  He then walked Chris Hamilton (Stony Brook) to bring home a run and give Amsterdam the lead.  The inning could have been much bigger, but John Valente (St. John’s) hit into a double play to end the frame. 

The Mohawks extended their lead against Mike Pepio (East Stroudsburg) in the sixth on a Will Holland (Auburn) RBI single which scored Gonnella.  Holland recorded four hits and three RBI over the past two games, both against Albany.  

Albany caught a break in the sixth inning to bring the deficit back one run.  With Brandt Holland (North Alabama) on second, Colin Kaucher (Ohio Dominican) hit a grounder that went in between the legs of second baseman Jake Mueller (Wake Forest) to score and unearned run off of McSweeney.  Mueller redeemed himself in the seventh inning with a solo home run to left that stayed just inside the foul pole off of Pepio.

The two teams traded runs in the first inning.  Rivera hit an RBI groundout to score Valente, who had double to lead of the game and advanced on Mueller’s groundout.  The Dutchmen responded in the bottom half of the frame.  Nick Gallo (Oklahoma State) and Holland hit back to back singles with two out to put runners at the corners.  Gallo came in to score on Thomas Lane’s (Boston College) wild pitch.    

 With the loss, Albany falls back to 5.5 games behind Amsterdam in the East.  Amsterdam now owns a 4-3 edge over the Dutchmen in the teams’ season series.  The two teams match up one more time in the regular season, taking place on July 19^th at Siena Field.  

Albany plays their final game before the All-Star break tomorrow, taking on the Saugerties Stallions at 5:05 p.m. at Siena Field.  The game will feature the Albany Clothing and Promotions cup giveaway to the first 250 fans in attendance.  The Dave & Buster’s Street Team will also be in attendance along with the Hudson’s Crew music series.
