High Powered Offense Leads Dutchmen to DH SweepBy: Camdyn Ames ALBANY, N.Y. - The Albany Dutchmen swept the Amsterdam Mohawks in a doubleheader in PGCBL action at Connors Park on Sunday afternoon. Dutchmen 5, Mohawks 3 Albany scored all five of their runs in the first four innings to propel them to a 5-3 victory over the Mohawks. In the first inning Cameron Masterman (Louisville) singled home Brandon Seltzer (Palm Beach Atlantic) to give the Dutchmen an early 1-0 lead. Amsterdam responded in the top of the second, tying the game up at one run apiece after a Shane Muntz (Wake Forest) single that scored Elvis Peralta Jr. (Marshall). Lucas Dunn (Louisville) doubled to score Ryan Luntz (Seton Hall) in the bottom of the second to give the Dutchmen the lead back. Mike Antico (St. John’s) homered in the top of the third to tie the game for the second time, this time at two. The Dutchmen took back the lead after a Cole McNamee (Wake Forest) single to score Masterman. The next batter, Zach Durfee (Siena) singled in Jerry Huntzinger (Seton Hall). The Dutchmen took a 4-2 lead heading into the top of the fourth. The Dutchmen scored one more run in the fourth, to make it 5-2. Amsterdam attempted a comeback, but could only score one run in the sixth. Max Cioffi earned the win for the Dutchmen, tossing four innings allowing only one earned run, on four hits while striking out four. Dalton Harvey picked up a save for Albany, throwing three innings, allowing one run on two hits and striking out four. Dutchmen 16, Mohawks 8 The Dutchmen came back from a seven run first inning deficit, collecting 15 hits and scoring 16 runs. Amsterdam started the game off hot, scoring seven runs in the first inning. The first inning was highlighted by an Peralta Jr. two-run single, and a Joe Genord (South Florida) three-run home run. Huntzinger led the Dutchmen offensively, going 4-for-5 with six RBI and two runs scored. In the bottom of the first Huntzinger doubled in Griffen Herrera (Azusa Pacific) to cut the Mohawks lead to six. The Dutchmen scored five runs in the second inning, highlighted by Huntzinger two-run double, a Herrera RBI double, and a Golston Gillespie (Ole Miss) RBI double. The Dutchmen scored ten more runs in the last three innings to give Albany the doubleheader sweep. The Dutchmen visit the Glens Falls Dragons tomorrow at 7:05 pm in Glens Falls. They will return home on Saturday, July 14th against the Amsterdam Mohawks at 5:05 pm for their team poster and post-game autograph night! The Amsterdam Mohawks will travel to Oneonta to face the Outlaws tomorrow night at 7:05 pm. |
