Louisville
J.D. Mundt (’16-’17 Dutch), Adam Elliot (’17 Dutch), Lucas Dunn (’18 Dutch), Cameron Masterman (’18 Dutch), Ben Metzinger (’19 Dutch), Chris Seng (’19 Dutch)
Louisville entered the NCAA tournament as the number seven overall seed and hosted the Louisville Regional. In an elimination game against Indiana, Adam Elliot came into the game in the fifth inning, pitched 2.1 innings and allowed zero runs. The Cardinals defeated the Hoosiers 9-7 and advanced to the regional final. The Cardinals split the first two games vs. Illinois St. In the third game this afternoon Louisville walked it off and won 4-3 to advance to the Super Regional. Lucas Dunn started all four games at CF during the regional, going 2-12, with two walks and a triple that drove home two runs. The Cardinals play either East Carolina or Campbell in the Super Regionals.
Ole Miss
Michael Fitzsimmons (’15 Dutch), Max Cioffi (’18 Dutch), Justin Bench (’19 Dutch), Josh Hall (’19 Dutch), Logan Savell (’19 Dutch), Jacob Steinberg (’19 Dutch)
Ole Miss is the number 12 overall seed in this season’s NCAA tournament and hosted the Oxford Regional. Ole Miss won all three games in their regional in dominant fashion to advance to the Super Regional. In game one against Jacksonville St. Michael Fitzsimmons, Josh Hall and Justin Bench all appeared as pinch hitters. Fitzsimmons struck out, Hall walked, and Bench singled to right field. In game 2, Hall appeared again and grounded out to first base in a 6-1 Ole Miss win over Clemson. Game 3 saw Fitzsimmons and Bench get in off the bench, with Bench going 1-2 with an RBI single to center and Fitzsimmons finishing 1-2 with a single to center. The third game was closed out by Max Cioffi, who came in and allowed two hits and one earned run but finished the inning by getting a double play. Ole Miss plays Arkansas in the Super Regionals.
Illinois State
Dalton Harvey (’18 Dutch)
Illinois St. was the third seed in the Louisville region after the Red Birds went 35-24 overall and lost to Indiana St. in the MVC Championship. Despite being a lower seed, the Red Birds beat Indiana in their first regional game with Dalton Harvey throwing 2.1 innings scoreless of relief. He notched 3 strikeouts and only allowed 1 hit to close out the 9-7 win. Harvey also appeared against Louisville, throwing 3.1 innings, while allowing two hits, two earned runs and two walks in the Red Birds’ 11-2 loss. The Redbirds would go on to be eliminated by Louisville 2-1 after a walk-off 4-3 loss on Monday.
Indiana State
Evan Giles (’16 Dutch)
Indiana State was the second seed in the Nashville Regional, hosted by Vanderbilt. The Sycamores won the MVC Tournament after finishing the season with a 41-16 record. Indiana St. played four games and Evan Giles appeared in the final one, throwing 1.2 innings and striking out two in the 12-1 loss to Vanderbilt.
Coastal Carolina
Kyle Skeels (’16 Dutch)
Coastal Carolina was the third seed in the Atlanta Regional, hosted by Georgia Tech. The Chanticleers won the Sun Belt Conference Tournament after finishing the season with a 35-24-1 record. They played three games, defeating Florida A&M but losing to both Georgia Tech and Auburn. Kyle Skeels started all three games behind the plate and went 2-9 with 3 sacrifice flies, which resulted in 3 RBI.
Stony Brook
Greg Marino (’17-’18 Dutch), Nick Grande (’18 Dutch), Greg Allard (’19 Dutch)
Stony Brook was the fourth seed in the Baton Rouge Regional, hosted by LSU. The Seawolves won the America East Conference Tournament after finishing the season with a 31-21 record. Stony Brook played only two games in the regional, with Greg Marino starting the first game against LSU. He lasted only 1.1 innings but allowed only two earned runs due to shaky defense and three walks. Nick Grande started at shortstop and led off in both games in the regional, finishing 1-9 with 2 SO.
Vanderbilt
John Malcom (’18 Dutch), Luke Murphy (’18 Dutch)
Vanderbilt is the number two overall seed in this season’s NCAA tournament and hosted the Nashville Regional. The Commodores went 49-10 this season and won the SEC Tournament. Vanderbilt went 3-0 in regional action and will play Duke in the super regional.
Tampa (D2 World Series)
Deaven Phillis (’18 Dutch), Colton Widdows (’19 Dutch)
Tampa University is the second overall seed in the NCAA D2 baseball tournament. The Spartans defeated Mercyhurst 4-2 and will take on #6 UC San Diego on Tuesday at 7PM.
