Clouds loom over tonight's game in Boonville as the Dutchmen lose their franchise best 8-game winning streak

BOONVILLE, N.Y.- The Albany Dutchmen’s franchise record setting win streak of eight games was put to a halt in a rain shortened game Sunday evening against Adirondack. With rain in the forecast all night and an unplayable field, the contest was stopped and deemed official after 5 innings.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the third inning when Lou Matarazzo (Iona) delivered a two-run double scoring Bret Huebner (Furman) and Tyler Bruno (Iona) who each reached on consecutive one-out singles.

Jack Grabek (Bucknell) started for the Dutchmen and went four innings allowing five hits and five earned runs with six walks. Deavan Phillips (Ave Maria) pitched the fifth inning for Albany surrendering three runs (two earned) on three hits, but struck out two.

The Trail Blazers scored multiple runs in each of the last three innings; equaling a total of eight for the game. Joe Simone (Rider), Zach Zschering (Adrian), and Tyler Bruno (Iona) all had RBI hits in the fourth and fifth to help secure the win.

Bryce Van Horn (Nova Southeastern) went the distance in the rain-shortened game, allowing two runs on just three hits. He struck out two and allowed no walks.

The Dutchmen’s first run came in the fourth to cut the Trail Blazers lead in half when Chase Allen (Limestone) hit his fifth double out of ten hits on the season, scoring Brad Gneiting (Rice) who led off the inning with a two-bagger of his own.

The only other hit from Albany led to their second and final run when Nick Estrella (Azusa Pacific) singled in the top of the fifth. After a double steal by Chris Villa (Seton Hall) set up second and third with one-out, Peyton Sockwell (North Alabama) hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield.

The Dutchmen will enjoy an off-day on Monday before returning home Tuesday for a 5:05 pm rematch with the Glens Falls Dragons. Tuesday will be Bacon Night at Siena Field. A quick back-to-back homestand will conclude on Wednesday with a matchup against the Saugerties Stallions. Wednesday’s promotion is Town of Colonie Night, where all residents of Colonie will receive free admission to the game.
