David Silva Jr. (Ohio Dominican) named Week Six Player of the Week Sponsored by Generation Land ManagementBy: Joey Palatsky ![]()
(ALBANY, NY)-- David Silva Jr. (Ohio Dominican) has been named the Generation Land Management Player of the Week for Week Six (7/11/22-7/17/22). The Ohio native went 6-21 with three doubles and seven stolen bases this past week.
“I was seeing the ball well, picking up spin, getting the barrel to the ball, and executing early in counts while taking pride in making myself a tough out late in counts,” Silva Jr. said.
2021 G-MAC Freshman of the Year, Silva Jr.’s bread and butter has been his attack mentality in the batters’ box.
“I’ve always been an aggressive hitter, I try to be aggressive on pitches in the zone, trust my ability, I took the motto of attacking strike one and put it into my craft,” Silva Jr. said.
The PGCBL leader in stolen bases, Silva Jr.’s 33 currently leads the entire league.
“I wanted to come here and see how many bases I can steal, I have the green light at school and here, I love being able to get on, free up the offense, make pitchers worry about me, and give hitters the edge,” Silva Jr. said.
In 2021 Silva Jr. ranked sixth in Ohio Dominican’s conference in stolen bases (17), and has always loved wreaking havoc on the basepaths.
“Ohio Dominican is huge on the running game, putting pressure on pitchers, and making them mess up and throw pitches over the heart of the plate,” Silva Jr. said.
Now with 10 games left in the season, Silva Jr. and the Dutchmen will look to work their way into the playoffs as Albany currently sits two games out of the playoff picture.
“We’ve got to stick to our plan, have to keep grinding, individually I’m trying to cut down the strikeouts, as a team we need to attack pitches over the plate, put the barrel on the ball and let our speed work,” Silva Jr. said.
David Silva Jr. and the Albany Dutchmen are rained out tonight, have a scheduled off day Tuesday, and will head to Watertown for a 6:35 first pitch against the Rapids. |
