The Albany Dutchmen and Coastal Carolina University have had a strong relationship for the past few seasons. After sending their first player, Hayes Orton, to the Dutchmen three years ago, Albany has become a summer home for many Chanticleers. As a perennial contender in the Big South Conference, Coastal Carolina’s players have flourished in the PGCBL and been welcome additions to the community off the field. Which is why the Dutchmen are excited to welcome two more members to town this summer: corner infielder Chris Suseck and outfielder Anthony Marks.

A sophomore from Flemington, New Jersey, Suseck came to Coastal Carolina after a prodigious high school career that saw him named first team All-Group IV, first team All-West Jersey, and second team All-State. He broke into the Chanticleer lineup as a defensive replacement during his freshman season and wound up appearing in 39 games total, hitting .235 and helping Coastal to an 11-3 record in games he started. This season, Suseck has been switching back and forth between third and first base, appearing in 17 games for the Chanticleers and compiling a .978 fielding percentage in his utility role.

He’ll be joined in Albany by the freshman Marks from Coraopolis, PA. The left-handed hitter was a three-time first team All-WPIAL Section 3 selection during his high school career and was also an ESPN honorable mention for the top players in Pennsylvania. He’s made his presence felt early in his collegiate career, appearing in 15 games for Coastal Carolina, hitting .304 with a .448 on-base percentage. A speedy outfielder and highly regarded “grinder,” Marks figures to be a fixture in centerfield for the Dutchmen.

With their versatility, defensive prowess, and experience with a high level of competition, this year’s crop of Chanticleers look to continue the strong tradition of success in the PGCBL.
